- Emilie Buchwald
When he was just an itty bitty, he liked hearing the tone and inflection of my voice. We did bedtime stories from early on as a big part of his bedtime routine. As he got older, he started to have favorite stories and would sit for hours listening to me read.
Then mobility happened and some nights he will only sit for about two pages. But now reading is getting quite fun again. At 14 months, he has favorite books and will go looking for them on his shelf and bring them to me to read, and read again, and again, and over again.... I have most of his favorites memorized.
Here is a list of his top ten favorite books in no particular order since they change daily.
1) Where the Wild Things Are
2) Goodnight Moon
3) That's not my puppy
4) Colors
5) Lift-the-Flap Bible
6)
Tails
7) Trucks
8) Moo, Baa, La La La!
10) Goodnight Gorilla
Some other notable books are the baby signs books that come with the signing kit. They aren't sold separately so you would have to get the entire kit. These are probably Kai's favorite books right now. See this post Baby Signs. He also really likes the John Deere tractor book that he was given that has wheels and is shaped like a tractor.
What books are your children's favorites? I am always in the market to get fun new books for Destructo. You know books I haven't already memorized. Oh and for anyone who hasn't already checked it out, look into the Dolly Parton learning library. Once you sign up your child, they can get a free book in the mail every month until they turn five. The books are really good books and Kai loves getting his new books out of the mailbox. Check it out and see if you have a program near you. Imagination Library

We have The Going to Bed Book and I love reading it, but he just isn't in to it except for the tooth brushing part since that is his daily highlight.
DeleteI will have to check out the train books. He is really into trains.
Oh my goodness- Good night Gorilla is one of our very favorite going to bed books! We just love it. I didn't know that anyone else knew about it. :)
ReplyDeleteWe actually got that book from the Dolly Parton learning library about two months ago. I knew it from working at the daycare as well, but love it even more since it was freebie book. Thanks for reading!
DeleteI hadn't heard of a couple of these...but Moo Baa and Goodnight Moon are on our rotation as well! I'll have to check out the other ones.

Check them out. Destructo really likes them. I am going to work on another post around 18 months of his favorite books then. They are constantly changing.
DeleteHi from my tour of the Kid Lit Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteI completely identify with the kid running everywhere. There are a few books Max absolutely loves that will make him hold still for at least halfway through the book ;)
If it has a truck, train, boat, or plane we are golden!
DeleteHi, I just read Goodnight Moon to my almost 6 year-old last night. For some strange reason, he really wanted that one. We are also big Sandra Boynton fans - Snuggle Puppy is one of my favorites. We reviewed it on our site if you are interested.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking into the Kid Lit Blog Hop. I already follow you, but I've added email as well. Hope you'll join us again. Cheers!
I love Snuggle Puppy. I keep hoping I will find it at one of the consignment sales I go to. Destructo isn't as big a fan as I am though. :(
DeleteI will link up again!
This was a fun tour of books for young kids. My favorite one was "Where the Wild Things Are," from this selection. My son also loved "Go Do Go!" by Eastman. Sorry, can't remember Eastman's first name. My son was reading these like 20 years ago. Anyway! Thanks for linking in to the Kid Lit Blog Hop!
ReplyDeleteYeah we have Go Dog Go, but Destructo just doesn't much care for it.
DeleteWe have one book out of all the ones you suggested; where the wild things are. it's one of my husband's favorites! We are slowly building a book stash for our baby . I really want to include the Good night moon one! The Flip the Tab Bible book looks great! Thanks for including links!
