Week 9: Green Olive

Source

How far along: 9 weeks

 Total weight gain: 3 pounds

Maternity clothes: Nope. But if I wear jeans, I can't button them anymore.  I hate jeans.

Stretch marks: Not any new ones that I didn't have from Kai.

Sleep: I average 4-6 hours a night with one wake up on work nights.  I do better on non work days since I typically get about 7-8 hours at night with a wake up or two and then a lot of days I take at least a half hour nap when Destructo naps.

Best moment of this week:  Going to Kai's first baseball game

Miss anything: Advil.  My back and neck are killing me and I can't take my beloved Advil.

Movement: Nope.

Food cravings: Still Taco Bell.  And fruit and yogurt.

Anything making you queasy or sick:  Cigarette smoke.  And today, everything is making me feel awful.  Meat especially.

Have you started to show yet: A bit although I don't look pregnant yet.

Gender: Not so patiently waiting to find out.

Labor signs: Hopefully not for a very long time.

Belly button in or out: In all the way. Although it is slightly more shallow.  I bet it pops out a lot earlier this time.

Wedding rings on or off: On

Happy or moody most of the time:  Pretty normal this week.

Looking forward to: Working on Destructo's big boy room.

Week 8: Raspberry

Add caption

How far along: 8 weeks

Total weight gain:  Two pounds

Maternity clothes: Nope.

Stretch marks: Not any new ones that I didn't have from Kai.

Sleep:  Not nearly frequently enough.  I keep going to bed late and having to wake up super early for work.  On my days off, I sleep in until Kai wakes.  Then I usually take a nap when he naps.  I am going to miss the one child days where I am guaranteed a nap during the day if I want one.  Sob.  I do love naps.

Best moment of this week:  Telling Mr. Destructo's family

Miss anything:  Energy.  Still missing energy.

Movement: Nope. Well unless you count the crazy gas bubbles?? that felt just like a baby moving

Food cravings: I am loving Mexican food this week.  And Taco Bell.  Hangs head in shame.

Anything making you queasy or sick:  This morning the smell of coffee made me gag.  And any perfumey smells are awful.

Have you started to show yet:  A little bit.  I noticed yesterday I can no longer suck my stomach in completely flat.

Gender: Don't know yet. Hurry up Halloween and get here so we can find out.

Labor signs:  Hopefully not for a very long time.

Belly button in or out: In all the way.

Wedding rings on or off: On

Happy or moody most of the time: Lacking patience, tired, and a bit moody and anxious

Looking forward to: Fall.  I can't wait for fall to get here.  I love fall and we should find out what this baby is in the fall and I can reveal to the general public that I am pregnant and not have to worry about accidentally publishing one of these instead of just saving it as a draft.

How to Survive Morning Sickness

Alternate titles:  How to survive progesterone poisoning, How to survive the nine month hangover, The Art and Method of Staring into Your Trash Can at Work
Source

Morning sickness.  Ahh the dreaded first tri (and sometimes even longer) curse of any pregnant woman.  I was one of the lucky ones in that mine typically goes away once I hit about 14-15 weeks both times.  I was also one of the "lucky" ones that pretty much got morning sick as the pee was drying on the pee stick.   The joys of pregnancy.

Some tips and tricks I have learned in two pregnancies (and links in case you are too exhausted/sick to get off your couch and go get these thing):

1)  Eat sour candy.  For some reason Sour Patch Kids or Jolly Rancher Fruit n' Sour candy seemed to help me.  Preggie Pop Drops were also a hit in my first pregnancy.  Basically anything a bit sour and a bit fruity that I could keep in my mouth seemed to distract my head enough to function.

2)  Unisom and vitamin B6 taken at night was a huge blessing this second pregnancy.  I didn't know about this with Destructo and wish I had.  I take a half tab of unisom and a 50 mg pill of vitamin B6 at night and it has really helped.  I know this because the few night I forgot to take it, I was up all night sick as could be. This combo actually used to be a morning sickness medicine that isn't available in the US anymore (but according to my midwife is going to be available again soon.)

3)  Sea bands.  I never personally tried these but a lot of my friends said they really helped.  I kept meaning to get some and just never did.

4)  Getting plenty of sleep.  Easier said than done when you feel like puking all night long.  But nights I didn't sleep much at all, I was also a lot sicker the next day.  And yeah morning sickness is such a lie.  I had worse middle of the night sickness or evening sickness than I ever did in the morning.  I think it should be called all day sickness or can strike at any time sickness personally.

5)  Fruit smoothies were a life saver both times.  I could not eat in the morning but not eating made it worse and it was a vicious cycle with no happy end in sight.  I started making strawberry banana smoothies and adding in whey protein to make sure I was getting some extra protein in it and this helped.  I also lived off of strawberries and yogurt this time around.

6)  Anything icy cold to drink in the morning (or whenever you are taunted by the evil morning sickness beast) seemed to help ward off some of the sickness.

7)  Ginger candy and ginger ale.  Ginger is said to soothe your stomach and I can say the ginger ale in particular helped me.  Watch though a lot of the grocery store ginger ales don't actually contain ginger.  Honestly though they helped me as well due to the carbonation.

8)  When I felt a episode of about to get sick coming on, I would take slow deep breaths and concentrate on not getting sick.  Lying down if I could also helped.

9)  I tried to avoid any strong scents.  Coffee really bothered me both times so I would use the door not through the kitchen at work.  I started taking the stairs more to avoid being trapped in the elevator with people who could smell like cigarette smoke or strong perfume.  Good exercise as well!

10)  Eating frequent small meals of protein and carbs helped.  Cheese and crackers, hummus and pretzels, peanut butter on crackers were all good and quick snacks.

11)  Chewing watermelon gum helped this time.  Not sure why.  But it did.

12)  Don't feel guilty if you aren't able to eat super healthily in first tri.  You can make up for it later.  Eat what you can, when you can.

Okay I hope some of these tricks and tips might help you feel better.  If your morning sickness is really bad, talk to your doctor about Zofran.  I have heard it helps a lot.

Ohh the clutter

Since getting pregnant, it has been like my clutter radar has went into high gear.  I can't stand the clutter and want it gone yesterday.  I know a big part of this stems from the fact that I will be quitting my full time job in December and staying home full time with the kiddos yay!!!  But mainly I worry that I won't be able to watch Kai like a hawk like I have to do now to keep him from getting into the piles of clutter.  (I mean we aren't going on Hoarders anytime soon, but we have way too much clutter.)

Add into this the fact that what is currently our office/guest room is going to become a big boy fire truck bedroom for Destructo so the new baby can have Kai's current nursery for it's room and I am losing my mind.  How are we supposed to condense an office and guest room into the rest of the house?  Well you guessed it even more decluttering.  We currently have four book shelves in that room.  I hope to find bunk beds (which Destructo has very loudly declared he must have) to match the wood of the shelves so I can leave the two with doors in the room in the corner in an L shape to not take up a whole lot of floor space.  I can use these to store all his billion books and then the doored areas for toy storage.  The bunk beds we are going to get have two under bed drawers and then stairs on them that have drawers built into them.  So yay for probably not having to have a dresser since clothes can be stored there.  One shelf can go in our bedroom along with the computer on a corner desk.  Luckily we have a large master bedroom.  Then we will have to sell one shelf or put it in the garage.

I have made progress since this picture but still a lot of junk in the office
Another thing I plan on doing is to divide Destructo's toys in half and rotate them every few month.  He has tons of toys and that way he always has "new" toys.  We used to do this at the daycare and the kids loved it.  If this baby is a girl, I will have a ton of attic space since all ten crates of boy clothes and three crates of shoes will go.  I plan on letting my sister keep what she wants for her son and selling the rest.  I literally have too many clothes and could have clothed triplets probably.  Then with the money from selling them, I can buy girly clothes.  Even if this baby is a boy, I will still free up room in the attic since as the baby things come down from the attic, they won't go back up since we are done with babies after this one.  If this baby is a boy, I also plan on taking all the crates down and organizing them since I just packed them away with no rhyme or reason to it so that I can easily take down 0-3 months or NB sizes and not have to dig through all ten crates.

The clutter in the rest of the house is going to be my biggest challenge.  We have boxes of stuff that neither one of us seems to know what to do with.  It has to go since I can't have Destructo getting into who knows what when I am milk cowing it up on the couch with a newbie.  I get overwhelmed when I look at it and just think about trying to figure out what to do with it.  But I am making progress.  I have a huge bag to go to Good Will, a laundry basket full of things of some value that I am trying to sell on Craigslist (and if no luck then they will go to Good Will as well, and then two smaller bags of clothes to go to my sisters.  I look at each mountain of stuff that will be gone in two weeks as a huge win in the war against clutter.

So what are you decluttering tips and tricks?  Any words of wisdom for me?  I truly hope that come December when I quit my job, I am still feeling fairly well and able to get a lot of it done then since I will have a bit more time.  I will only be 26 weeks when I quit.  We shall see.

Week Seven: Blueberry

Source

How far along: 7 weeks

Total weight gain:  One pound

Maternity clothes: Nope.

 Stretch marks: Not yet.

Sleep: I am waking once or twice a night to go pee and some nights the nausea is keeping me up for awhile. I have been really bad about not falling asleep until 11 or so and with having to wake up at 5 for work, this is making the pregnancy exhaustion even worse.

Best moment of this week:  Kai demanding we buy his baby sister a pink Fisher Price sea horse.  The boy is in for a world of disappointment if this baby is a boy.  We humored him and bought it and I figure it can be a baby shower gift if this baby is a boy.

Miss anything:  Energy.  And running and exercising.  I have walked once and swam once or twice, but between morning sickness and tiredness, it isn't going well.   Oh and the sun.  We have had a ton of rain lately.

 Movement: Nope

Food cravings:  Not really this week although when I saw the fruit of the week was blueberry I immediately really wanted blueberries.

Anything making you queasy or sick: This week wasn't as bad.  I had a few bad moments, but nothing horrible.

Have you started to show yet:  At night I get quite bloated beyond the normal belly flab.

Gender: Don't know yet.

Labor signs:  Hopefully not for a very long time.

Belly button in or out: In all the way.

Wedding rings on or off: On

Happy or moody most of the time: This week has been okay.  I no I have been a bit lacking in the patience department though.

Looking forward to: Getting to take Kai to his first baseball game in a week.

Week Six: Sweet Pea

Source

How far along: 6 weeks

Total weight gain: Zero although I did gain a pound back that I had lost.

Maternity clothes: Nope.

 Stretch marks: Not yet.

Sleep: I am waking once or twice a night to go pee and some nights the nausea is keeping me up for awhile.  Same as last week.

Best moment of this week:Getting to go to my sister's baby shower and see all the adorable baby clothes.

 Miss anything:  Energy.

 Movement: Nope

Food cravings:  Not really.  I still am loving fruits and veggies and dip.

Anything making you queasy or sick:  Meat at times.

Have you started to show yet: No

Gender: Don't know yet.  Kai says a girl girl.

Labor signs:  Hopefully not for a very long time.

Belly button in or out: In all the way.

Wedding rings on or off: On

Happy or moody most of the time:  I am pretty moody but only because I am so tired all the time.

Looking forward to:  Second tri and having energy again.

Ohh the Destructoisms

He calls helicopters up skies.  And the noise they make is up up up up up up up up.  Motorcycles are motorpsychees and they say a sound that sounds like motor motor motor.

He informed us today that his new baby cousin drinks milkie.  He is too little for food still.  This of course is while we are eating dinner and encouraging Kai to eat all his food so he can teach Liam how to eat all the food and grow big and strong (and by all the food I mean anything since Destructo is an awful eater.)  Destructo then out of the blue told us "yeah baby Lee Lee drinks milkie from Dayn Dayn's boob."  I nearly choked.  Then I came even closer to choking when he informed me the Steelers also get their milk from Dayn Dayn.

Speaking of the Steelers, they are his favorite team.  We are firmly a Titan household.  I might have to disown him.  The night Titans beat the Steelers Destructo informed my dad that the "Steelohs are in the lockie room cwying."  He might listen to me better than I thought.  Oh and he is also a Yankees or Ankees as he calls them fan.  No one in this house is a Yankees fan.  He pretty much finds out who we are rooting for and then goes the opposite way.

I saw a particular group he likes was coming to the theater near us.  I asked him if he would like to go and he said "Momma I would loveeee dat."  I will be in hell this Saturday.  Just in case you were curious.

In trying to get him to say yogurt properly, Mr. Destructo was breaking it down.  Say Yo Kai says yo perfectly.  Say gurt, Kai says gurt.  Say yogurt.  Laylay.  I laughed.  I dread the day he says it right.  It is so cute.

Just now he told us he doesn't like the Red Sox.  He likes the tiger team.  They are playing the Orioles which have black and orange on their clothes.  Creative I tell ya.

Apparently he is also bad to da bone.  That is new as of tonight.

He calls his future baby brother (even though we don't know if it is a boy but in his mind he is certain)  Zecharioh.  Cutest mispronouciatian ever.

He is the world's biggest back seat driver.  And has an amazing sense of direction.  I like this because already he is as good (and most likely better) than me.  Yay for my toddler being able to get me home when I am lost.

Week Five: Apple Seed

Source

How far along: 5 weeks

Total weight gain: Nada zip zero.  I have technically lost a pound since I found out nearly two weeks ago.

Maternity clothes: Nope.  I mean if you don't count the pair of maternity yoga pants I never quit wearing.  ::hangs head in shame::

Stretch marks: Not yet.  Unless you count all the ones that never fully went away from Destructo haha.

Sleep: I am waking once or twice a night to go pee and some nights the nausea is keeping me up for awhile.   Taking unisom and vitamin B6 has really helped though.

Best moment of this week: Telling my family or how Kai loves to give my belly kisses already.

Miss anything:  Eating what I want.  Not feeling sick all the time.  Not being exhausted a lot of the time.

 Movement: Nope

Food cravings: Fruit and smoothies, but this isn't craving as much as it is the only thing I can get down some times.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Meat, anything junk food, cheese, cookies, you know air, water, everything.

Have you started to show yet: No

Gender:  I think we will find out around Christmas or first week of November.  I can't wait!

Labor signs: I seriously hope not.

Belly button in or out: In all the way.

Wedding rings on or off: On

Happy or moody most of the time: I have been pretty emotional this week for no real good reason other than tiredness.

Looking forward to: Not feeling like I am going to puke every second.  Working on a big boy room for Destructo so baby can have the nursery.  He wants a fire truck room and I can't wait to work on it.  Knowing if this baby is a boy or girl so I can know whether I need to keep holding onto all Kai's old clothes.

Week Four: Poppy Seed

Source
Okay I will be posting these for a few days until I get caught up to my current week.  Before I revealed my pregnancy to the internets,I did these each week and just saved them.  I was so paranoid that I would accidentally publish before friends and family knew haha.

Week Four. The baby is the size of a poppy seed. It is amazing that while so very small, the baby can already change your body so much.  It is just crazyness I tell ya!  Each week I will document what is new in the pregnancy and how things are progressing.  Of course, these will stay private until we announce to the world.  With Destructo, I did a pregnancy journal, but I know I don't have time to write all this stuff down while chasing a crazy toddler around so I will do it on here an eventually print it into a book for newbie ball of cells.

How far along:  4 weeks
Total weight gain:  Nada zip zero
Maternity clothes:  Nope
Stretch marks: Not yet
Sleep:  I am waking twice a night to go pee and some nights the nausea is keeping me up for awhile.
Best moment of this week: Finding out I was pregnant of course even if I was a bit surprised
Miss anything:  Exercising.  The queasiness and heat are really keeping me from jogging like I would like.  Meat.  This baby pretty much only likes fruit and veggies.
Movement:  Nope
Food cravings:  Fruit of any type and one day I just had to have a hot dog.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Anything isn't the right word.  It is more like everything.  Meat in particular and cheese.
Have you started to show yet: No
Gender:  We don't know yet.  In all our talking of girl names, I have started to think of this baby as a girl.  Plus since Destructo confirmed my pregnancy before I even knew, I should probably listen to his psychic self and assume he is right when he says the baby is a baby "sittah".
Labor signs:  I seriously hope not.
Belly button in or out:  In all the way.
Wedding rings on or off: Well my actual wedding ring hasn't been on in a while since I hurt my finger playing Catch Phrase at Thanksgiving and it doesn't fit right now.  But my anniversary ring that my hubby bought me is on.
Happy or moody most of the time:  I have been pretty moody.  I just feel rotten a lot of the time and am so hot and it makes me a bit cranky.
Looking forward to: All the milestones of this pregnancy.  But mostly first tri being over and feeling human again.

Worst Feeling Ever

When your baby is sick and there is nothing you can really do to help.  Destructo has hand foot and mouth.  He has only been really sick one other time and that was with an ear infection.  At least that time, there was something I/the doctor could do since he got antibiotics.  This time it is a virus and it is just treat for fever and pain and wait for it to run its course.  And wouldn't you know it, my son gets it when it is a very bad strain that caused high fevers and lots of spots.

So far he doesn't have any in his mouth so that will be nice if it continues.  He has a few on his neck, hands, and feet and one on his face.  My poor baby.  He feels awful and has just laid around all day long.  I am taking a half day off of work tomorrow even though my sister keeps him just to rock him all day if that is what makes him feel better.

Under two blankets shaking horribly from fever

Turned into flat out on his couch falling asleep at six
So any miracle cures for hand foot and mouth?  My poor pitiful little thing.

I am finally an aunt!  I have a new baby nephew.  He was born Tuesday 9/3/13 weighing 6 pounds 12 oz and 19 3/4 inches long.  Destructo adores him already!

Ten Random Facts about Me

Here are ten random facts about my dreams or goals for life.  I am a weirdo.  I already know that.  :)

1)  It is a dream of mine to see a whopping crane in the wild.  These birds were nearly extinct at one point and due to some serious conservation efforts, have made a come back in recent years.  They are huge!  I can't imagine how cool it would be to see one in real life.

2)  I want to own a thoroughbred race horse one day.  Even if it is just a cheap claimer that I use as a backyard companion.  I would love to hit the lottery and own a thoroughbred breeding farm one day.

3)  I want to go back to school to become a lactation consultant.  I hope this will happen.  We shall see.

4)  I want to go back to Costa Rica for a few weeks.  There is so much we didn't get to see or do in the week we were down there on our honeymoon.  I hope to go back for maybe our ten year anniversary.

5)  I want to own a small farm one day.  With chickens.  Chickens are awesome.  Eggs from the chickens are even more awesome.

6)  I would love to get into dog agility one day.  My dog right now shows a bit of talent towards agility and I really wish I had done more with her but I just don't have the time.

7)  I will one day go to all three Triple Crown races in one year.  On the same note, I want to go to all the major race tracks in the US before I die.

8)  I want to ride a horse at Churchill Downs.  This will probably never happen.  But hey I can dream.  I just can't imagine the joy of galloping a horse around the oval and coming down the stretch even if it is just me and my horse.  Obviously I am not a jockey haha.

9)  Those fifty top birds you need to see in your lifetime list.  Yeah I want to see them all.

10)  I will go to Australia one day.  Yes I will.
