Kai has way way way too many toys. I swear at night (and by at night I mean when grandma keeps him during consignment sale season) I think the toys breed while I am sleeping. I am pretty sure there is something freaky going on like this. There has to be. Seriously.
I love any toy that amuses him and keeps his attention for more than two seconds allowing me a few uninterrupted moments to get something done or to sit and actually think. And he has a few of those. But this factor isn't enough to keep some of them off my list of utter hatred. And without further ado, here are my top ten most hated toys.
1) Puzzles. He actually really likes his puzzles, but not for the reasons you might think. Namely putting them together. He prefers to take them apart and use the pieces for other things. This puzzle
he takes apart and drives the vehicles around while making their sounds. He fixes things around the house and helps his daddy with this puzzle.
He cooks these puzzle pieces in a mixing bowl. He loves to stir them and then let us "try" them. Could we have a future sushi chef on our hands?
Needless to say, these puzzles pieces get everywhere and drive me absolutely crazy. I spend so much time picking them up and then when a piece goes missing, it drives me crazy.
2) Geometric stacking toy.
It is a great toy to teach counting, shapes, and colors. But one of the purple rectangles disappeared for months. And as I mentioned previously, my OCD tendencies really don't like this. For that reason alone, this toy makes the list.
3) So what does any sane person do when a toy annoys them? They buy the upgraded version of that toy.
I found this toy for 8 bucks at one of the consignment sales I went to and since Kai loved the simple version of it decided to get the more complicated version for him. He loves it and plays for long periods of time with it, but the pieces get scattered everywhere over the course of his play.
4) Animal pop up toy.
Why might you wonder does this one annoy me? Because it was given to us and the lion on it doesn't always go down. Which bothers Kai. Which causes him to come whine to me each and every time because he can get all the other ones down and not that one. He can't just ask nicely. He has to whineeeeeee. This was one of his earliest favorites and I highly recommend it for 6-12 month babies.
5) His books. No I don't actually detest them. But I sure do abhor having to pick them up a thousand times a week. He can't read one and put it back. No, like most babies he must take them all off the shelf to read one. It helps him pick, you know?
6) Bowling pin set. For one they kind of remind me of little aliens and if you have been reading a while you guys know how I feel about aliens. But mostly I hate this toy because Kai does not set them up and bowl with them. He just throw the pins around and I trip over them and nearly break my neck daily. I actually do not recommend buying this one. It just annoys me.
7) Wooden train block set.
This is probably Destructo's very favorite toy in the history of his young life. I got it from one of my mom's friends whose son had outgrown it. I need to get wood glue and put the pins back in since they were loose and he was putting them in his mouth so I took them away. But he loves to stack all the blocks on the train cars and then when he tires of this, he cooks with the blocks. Why does it make the list if I am heaping accolades on it? Because it has about a billion and one little blocks that he scatters everywhere. Okay I am being dramatic. But there really is a lot of pieces.
8) Singing helicopter.
When we were getting ready to go out of town, Kai saw this toy in the store and fell in love with it. It plays helicopter noises and sings a song. The song that stays stuck in my head forever. Swoop and soar, spin and fly, helicopters in the sky... But what can I say it did amuse him on the car ride. Now he mostly just uses it as a grenade and it is probably going to disappear soon.
9) Horse punching bag. My kid is destructive enough without learning to beat up a poor innocent horse. This is not a toy I recommend. LOL
10) Stuffed animals. They just multiply, collect dust, and take up precious room. Some of them even sing obnoxious songs. And everyone and their mother like to buy them for Destructo. I literally have an entire bag of stuffed animals in his closet that I have no clue what to do with. I mean bonfire, insulation for the house, target practice??? I never recommend these as toys for children.
So there you have it, my most hated (and at times loved) toys. If you really want to torture yourself with any of these toys, they are clicky links that you can find more info about them with. But don't say I didn't warn you.

Hilarious. We have the same issues with puzzles and books. Parts go everywhere, books never get picked up unless mama does it (this goes for grandmothers, fathers, AND baby!). Then...the helicopter. We have one with balls that go inside and pop out. She can pull it around. It SEEMS awesome. But BALLS everywhere and heaven forbid a ball gets stuck-then, the noise factor...grr. I enjoyed reading this. I really do think the toys multiply!!
ReplyDeleteLord don't get me started on balls. Those probably would have made the list except I am hoping he will be a soccer super star so I tolerate them. He loves to scatter those everywhere too. I swear once I finally get him to bed and look around the house seriously looks like some sort of natural disaster has struck it. It is awful. Some nights I just sit on my couch and stare. The task of cleaning it up is too daunting. Thanks for reading!
DeleteMy daughter has a the helicopter and wooden train too... Also tons of books, puzzles, and stuffed animals. I admit, I bring some of the more annoying toys to my mom's house. And I have her clean up her room twice a day or it just gets too crazy. She's been pretty good about it lately, we make it a game. :)
ReplyDeleteI try to get Kai to help clean sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. He will usually at least help put the books on the shelf. Any toy that annoys me to bad usually gets relocated to grandma or my sisters house as well. I like to think of it as a coping mechanism. :)
DeleteThis is so funny. I've been wanting to get that stacking train, but I hear you--those kinds of toys kick my OCD tendencies into overdrive.
ReplyDeleteYou should. It truly is his favorite toy. I keep it in a little rubbermaid tote thingie and he asks for it every single day at least once a day. It would be well worth the money if it amused your child as much as it does Destructo.
Deletenew follower from follow me wednesday!!! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for following! I followed you back on Google+.
DeleteTotally with you on stuffed animals! They just take up space and need to be washed
ReplyDeleteI know. Thanks for reminding me that I probably need to wash his little blue teddy bear that sleeps in his crib. I always forget to do it on the weekends when I do his laundry.
DeleteAhh number 2 & 6 I can totally relate! Made me laugh :) There are so many toys I hate. I love that you called them out.
ReplyDeleteI guess I should have titled this post my hate filled Tuesday rant because I am PMSing huh? Thanks for reading!
Deletethose melissa and dough toys and puzzles rock! I did hate trying to find missing pieces all the time.
ReplyDeleteYeah he has a ton of Melissa and Doug toys. I like them, but really wish they weren't made in China. But at least that company seems fairly committed to safety.
DeleteLOL! I so agree with you! There are so many toys on there that I hate as well. Found you on the Wednesday Hop.
ReplyDeleteCome by and say hello. http://www.thesexysinglemommy.com
Excellent post. Very funny. I find the less toys the better! I am a new follower
ReplyDeleteHappy Little Feet
Thanks for following! I try to keep his toys in crates and bins now because if I only bring a few out at a time, he actually plays with them instead of just scattering them everywhere.
DeleteStopping by from the Mommy-Brain Mixer! I can completely relate to your post. I wish more companies were committed to both quality and safety.
ReplyDeleteI know. I try to buy from companies like Haba, Plan etc that don't produce in China and are committed to quality, but they are so expensive and not available except online typically. At least Melissa and Doug seems pretty committed to safety even if they are manufactured in China.
Deletehaha I have to agree! I both love and loathe my little guys toys! He loves to carry around 3 big stuffed animas all day long....so cute and so frustrating!
ReplyDeleteYeah my child is constantly digging his lovies out of his crib and his paci (which he is only supposed to have in is crib) and walking around with them. I don't even really mind except when I have to play the wonderfully fun game of where in the world is Destructo's lovey every single night.
DeleteAww we have so many of those puzzles. Love this!
ReplyDeleteI have actually put half his puzzles up for now. I figure that way I can rotate them and he always has "new" puzzles.
Deletevery true!! as they get older I would add little army guys and mini traffic cones. They hurt like HECK to step on in the middle of the night!! Following you from the Mommy-Brain Mixer!
ReplyDeletehttp://lifeonmavenue.blogspot.com/2012/08/dear-mom-lets-chat.html
Maybe that should be a top ten post for me to write. Top ten toys that can inflict bodily harm when being stepped on in the middle of the night by a sleep deprived mom on the verge of insanity. It has a nice ring to it.
DeleteI am checking out your blog right now. Thanks for following!
I hate stuffed toys too!! There is no safe, non-tedious way to clean them!
ReplyDeleteThanks for co-hosting the Mommy Brain mixer!
Cleaning by fire? I think that is going to be my method of choice if people keep buying them for Destructo.
DeleteAll I can say is... that freaking helicopter!! We have one that drove me so crazy I let the batteries die and told them it must be broken. And then, guess what?? We got another one! ha! So now we have 2 of those terrible things! :) Thanks again for co-hosting the Mommy-Brain Mixer and I hope to see you again on Thursday! :)
ReplyDeleteSwoop and soar, spin and fly, helicopters in the sky. I would lose my marbles if he had two. I will link up again Thursday. See you then.
DeleteOh boy, we can all relate to this! As I was reading this list though, I couldn't help but wonder- what toys does she not hate? Lol. This made me giggle, thanks for sharing at Sweet Saturday!
ReplyDeleteI don't hate his balls since he is going to be a soccer superstar so he needs them for practice. I don't hate his trucks or his seahorse. Yep that is about it. LOL Thanks for reading!
DeleteHope your having an awesome day! Stopping by via Mommy Brain Mixer blog hop and following your GFC. I hope you will follow me back @ www.onecreativeprocrastinatinggal.blogspot.com

Deletegood information shared!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a good list. Mine is stickers. I despise them, but know the kiddos love them. They end up everywhere.
