So in today's economy, everyone likes something that is free or cheap. And what mommy doesn't like something that entertains her child for a few minutes of uninterrupted peace and blogging (or whatever your time suck of choice is.)
So here is Destructo's top ten toys or activities that are free or cheap.
1) Driving the shopping cart car at the grocery store. Free and it entertains him while I shop.
2) Rocks. When he isn't trying to eat them, he really likes playing with them and pushing them around in his dump trucks.
3) Painting. What child doesn't like feeling like a mini Picasso? Stay tuned. I am hoping to try some homemade finger paint recipes out this weekend. I will report back with my findings on which ones work well.
4) Playdough. See post here for recipes.
5) Colored rice sensory play. See post here for instructions on how I made this.
6) Sensory bottles. See post here for how I made these.
7) Pots and pans. He loves to pretend to cook with these and to bang them with spoons and make noise. The possibilities are endless.
8)Vacuuming. He loves to help me vacuum and when all else fails and I am not vacuuming that day, he just rides the vacuum cleaner.
9) Water play. We have a water table pirate ship that Kai likes to play in. But he will also play in the sink, tub, pool, hose, river, waterfall. You get the point.
10) Colander and pipe cleaners. Kai loves putting the pipe cleaners into the holes of the colander and bonus it doubles as a hat.

LK loves to push the shopping cart. Except I'm wearing him in the baby bjorn so I have to slouch down so he reaching the handle. And He loves the vaccum too! Again, I wear him around and vaccuum and he is just mesmerized.
ReplyDeleteI actually bought Kai a little toy vacuum for his birthday. As soon as he sees me come anywhere near the actual vacuum he is dragging his toy one out to me. He vacuums as I vacuum.
DeleteDinosaur loves the colander and pipe cleaners and finger painting too. Yes, letting him drive around in the car shopping cart is a God send at the store. He would so find a way to open those bottles, LOL
ReplyDeleteYou know what else is a God send? Cookies. I swear they are like manna from heaven. I can get at least three aisles done before he finishes it. Then he can drive his car and that gets me at least three more aisles especially if I pretend we are crashing regularly. The bottles are glued shut. But I am waiting on Kai to throw one and break it and hoping when it does happen it is on the tile floor and not my living room rug.
DeleteI'm your latest follower from the Flock Together Blog Hop. Destructo is an energetic little fellow so I'm pleased you've managed to keep him amused with these creative ideas.

ReplyDeleteHey at least she is getting exercise.
DeleteYou do an awesome job of keeping him busy with cool stuff--go you for making things for him yourself too! I need to steal some of these ideas so I have more time for my "time suck of choice" ;)
ReplyDeleteTime sucks are lots of fun!
DeletePots and pans, and painting!! Great list!
ReplyDeleteYou gotta include some spoons in with those pots and pans. You know, the more noise the better.
DeleteGreat ideas! My daughter loves to paint and color. She also loves cardboard boxes lol.
ReplyDeletePS I put your button up on my blog! :)
I will work on getting your button up on my side bar this evening! Yay for swapping buttons. Destructo loves cardboard boxes as well. I didn't even think to include that one.
DeleteWow, I've never heard the colander and pipe cleaners idea. I'll have to try that with my three year old...maybe even my six year old. :-). I cannot believe the gross things your son has done, that you wrote in my comments. At least my 10 list was spread out over three kids! Omg. The title of your blog is no lie.
ReplyDeleteI think the vacuume is my favorite. Ha!

DeleteWhat fun! I'd have never guessed the vacuum would be fun. Can't wait to see your paint recipes. I just love messy playtimes, and am really excited that my baby is getting close to the age where she'll really engage & enjoy it.
